A list of things I started or thought about this week:
- Writing a post about birches and their fluttering leaves. I don’t have it in me to finish today. Here’s an excerpt:
“The variety of greens surrounding my parents’ house is stunning. The maples offer dark, pronged spork leaves. The pines carry a nostalgic scent, their needles tinged with orange and softened by time. But it’s the birches I love most. They flutter in the wind, their whitish leaves like an artist forgot to finish painting them. They’re the most active, always flitting and catching the light. And somehow, they make me happy.”
- Began flirting with a waitress and stopped myself. Not the place, I reminded myself. She probably gets this attention too often.
- Brought my GoPro to film my parents’ surprise birthday party, our trip to Damariscotta, or my time at home. I haven’t touched the camera. I’m fine with that. Another essay topic for the future: why I film what I film. More importantly – why I don’t film some things.
- Considered setting up my reenacting tent to sleep outside one night. A comfortable bed tempted me too much. I’ll be tenting this weekend.
- Thought about texting some ex-girlfriends. Nothing weird, but curious how they’re doing.
- Wanted to write a book review for A Little Life by Hanya Yangihara. This is something I’ll add to next month’s Second Pass newsletter. Is newsletter even the correct term?
- Almost drove by my first house. I think about it often. It’s not so much that I miss that house, but I do miss owning a house.
At least I wrote this!
