Rediscovering My Creative Drive Through The Springwood Current

Introduction

I had this idea two weeks ago that I would design and create a newspaper based on a game I was playing. Cities: Skylines. The game allows you to run a city, adding infrastructure, and watching as the traffic impacts the city services like fire and police. You’ve read, perhaps, some of the “history” of this city. I named my city Springwood, based on the fictional river that runs through it. The format for the newspaper is sketched out, and I named it the Springwood Current – a play on the river’s influence. I was going to make an issue revolving around various time periods: the Civil War, the city’s 100th anniversary, the assassination of the mayor in the 20s, the atomic bombs, etc. Perhaps as many as ten issues are planned out. I may end up doing this project still. It mixes history, gaming, and writing.

But not yet. I recently ended a relationship, and my drive to write has been impacted. This is the first piece I’ve written in some time. I was about to create more excuses for not writing, such as planning units for the new trimester. But wouldn’t that be silly, making excuses for something like this? The whole point of this writing is to develop myself, to strengthen my use of the English language, and to learn along the way. Maybe the point of this post is some self-motivation.
