Introduction I had this idea two weeks ago that I would design and create a newspaper based on a game I was playing. Cities: Skylines. The game allows you to run a city, adding infrastructure, and watching as the traffic impacts the city services like fire and police. You’ve read, perhaps, some of the “history”ContinueContinue reading “Rediscovering My Creative Drive Through The Springwood Current”

Thoughts On Teaching
I’m teaching three classes this year: 8th Grade English, 9th Grade World Cultures, and History Through Film. The last one is truly an elective for mostly upperclassmen (ironically, there are more girls than guys…so upperclasspeople?). So far, so good. However, I’m coming across a few issues. The first issue is realizing how lacking these kidsContinueContinue reading “Thoughts On Teaching”
A New Nick in Town
The days are already crisp. I’m talking sub-50° mornings. I walk into the classroom and it feels good! But I run warm as a person. Most of my students, I imagine, are a bit chilly, especially during the first period of the day. It warms up though as the day progresses. But I really likeContinueContinue reading “A New Nick in Town”
Nick or Mr. B?
I’m having a tough time writing something right now. Last week was five days of orientation at CVA. And coming from a break in the school atmosphere, I felt my head expand with info. I’ve exhausted myself after each day and Friday was a blessing when that was all over. I met some folks atContinueContinue reading “Nick or Mr. B?”
Moving in at CVA
I’m all moved into my new apartment at Carrabassett Valley Academy. I wasn’t 100% excited about living in the dorm building with students, but I’m growing comfortable with that concept. I prefer privacy and a clear conclusion of my duties once the workday is over. I’m not sure how some of my duties will lookContinueContinue reading “Moving in at CVA”
Warm Weather Ahead
As we head into some warmer weather (thank the Gods), I’m looking forward to a lot. Back to gardening- It’ll be time soon to plant some seeds. Basil, tomatos, lettuce, beans…I’d love to do some grapes. Anna and I are planning out our garden areas. We also have our garage which may become a greenhouseContinueContinue reading “Warm Weather Ahead”
Motivation
My last pay period from teaching will be the end of August. I have stressed myself lately trying to figure out how to make money when that source runs out. I know I want to try self-employment. I also know I have never worked for myself, so the change in lifestyle and financial security willContinueContinue reading “Motivation”
Leaving Teaching
I’m not sure where I’ll go next or what I’ll do, but I still want to serve society and educate people. I think my time in the classroom is done for now. This was one of the hardest things I’ve done. But I know, in the long run, it’ll be worth it. I need to feel successful. I need to feel that I am doing good work.

Background information relevant to this post: I teach high school level Video Production. I had a tough day teaching. I have been for a while, wondering if I’ve lost my mojo. I attempted starting the day with positivity. I wanted to have a great day. But I have put myself in a pickle, allowing studentsContinueContinue reading “May 13, 2021”
