Quebec Trip 2024: Part Trois

Tuesday, November 26

This was our last day in Quebec. Will and I spent a couple of hours at the Musee du Civilization. I wasn’t a huge fan as there was a huge exhibit on wrestling, of all things. It was an unexpected start. We had to explore deeper to find a few bits about animals and Native Americans. Will rather enjoyed the wrestling exhibit, asking for photos several times. My preconceptions for the museum influenced my experience. I had hoped for a timeline of Quebec’s history. It wasn’t formatted to my expectations.

La Chope Gobelin

I researched top dining experiences the night before to prepare for this evening. There were several options, but the winner was La Chope Gobelin. The medieval style experience was excellent. We had an entertaining server with a heavily accented dialect. He was kind enough to explain things first in French and then in English to make sure we understood.

We started with bread and honey butter. So good! I ordered a beer, obviously a Boréale. It was poured in a medieval style mug. Will received a delicious seafood pie of scallops, shrimp, and haddock. I ate a skewer of beef and vegetables, alongside a delicious gravy, and french fries. We enjoyed this experience wholeheartedly. After we finished eating, the server sang some dirty songs in French. The restaurant was keeling over with laughter.

That’s the synopsis of our last day. I spent a portion of the day exploring the city prior to the museum. I walked perhaps two or three miles of the area surrounding our Airbnb. I enjoyed observing folks in their everyday life, oblivious to my presence. Quebec would be an interesting city to do some proper people watching. Perhaps I’ll add some pieces to my “Cursory Glances” collection.

Conclusion

In the end, this trip was pretty solid. There were moments Will and I were annoyed by each other, but it was good to explore a new city together. My favorite moments included Pizzéria No. 900, Plaines d’Abraham, and walking around the Old City. I expect to visit Quebec again in the future. Exploring in the summer or fall will be exciting. Up next: Montreal.
